Research Interest

Materials Science: Preparation and characterization of Thin films, Ceramic materials, high

temperature superconductors, semiconductor grade polycrystalline silicon, chemical sensors, humidity sensors,

Thin Films: Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), spray pyrolysis and spin on coating techniquewere modified to prepare several semicoductor oxides, e.g. doped SnO2, TiO2, ZnO, ZrO2, ITO etc.

Synthesis of Metal oxide resistors and potentiometers by using indigenously developed method in batch scale. Demonstrated the process to the industries

Development of micro igniters which require only milli-watt power; for the  Defense Department.

High quality Solar Selective Transparent: Preparation and characterization of IR reflecting vis- transparent Conducting glasses; using simple preparation routes such as spray pyrolysis, spin coating, dip coating chemical vapor deposition etc.

Inorganic Synthesis; The dominant semiconductivity activity is based on the Si technology. To meet the challenges in this field the development of semiconductor grade Si has unique importance. NCL had worked on this prestigious project for several years. I have contributed in this one ton per annum pilot plant of Synthesis of Ultrapure Silicon and achieved ppb level pure Si. This technique involves unconventionla materials science, inorgnic chemistry and physics.

Superconductors: Synthesis and characterization of high temperature superconductors such as  YBCO, BiCaSrCuO, LaSrCuO  and other newly emerging systems using novel soft route (patent)  Published several  papers including equivalent to that time highest 127K Tc superconductor  and filed patents in the course of this research activity.

PRESENT ACTIVITY

Gas sensors:  Research and developmental activity in the semiconducting oxide based

Chemical Gas Sensors such as; LPG, hydrogen, ammonia, carbon monoxide, hydrogen

sulfide, alcohol and Humidity sensors; in the bulk and thin film form.

Solid oxide Ionic conductors: Stabilized ZrO2 till recent time was known mainly as oxygen carrier and sensor. For the first time the idea of doping Tm ions during stabilization process of zirconia was worked out by us at NCL (patent). Worked as the coordinator in the development  such  Low temperature synthesised Tm doped stabilized zirconia. Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, V metal ions were doped to stabilized ZrO2.  The important development occuring out of these findings are auto exhaust catalyst and oxidative dehydrogenation of EB ->Sty. This  work was also carried out in the colloboration with a reputed industry.

Nanomaterials: exploratory work Au, Ag, and Cu clusters; Surface Assembled Monolyers (SAM) .
